Florence Smith

Florence S. Smith, 83, of Mexico, died at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Pin Oaks Nursing Center in Mexico. Mrs. Smith was born on Oct. 10, 1920, in Red Oak, Iowa, a daughter of Theodore and Gerda Hzalstorn Carlson. On Dec. 22, 1945, she married Clinton E. Smith, who died on Dec. 24, 1969. She had worked in Food Service at Audrain Medical Center until her retirement. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Survivors include a daughter, Rebekah Maddox and husband Mike, Mexico; a brother, Richard Carlson and wife Diana, Smithville; a sister, Lorene Sunderman and husband Wayne, Clarinda, Iowa; two grandchildren, Kelly Maddox and wife Stephanie, and Summer Maddox; and three great grandchildren, Grace and Hayden Maddox and Clinton Turpin, all of Mexico. Her parents, husband, a sister, Anna Allen, and a brother, Henry Carlson, preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith’s body was cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date in Nymann, Iowa. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials to St. John Lutheran Church in Mexico. Pickering Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. |
