   Chaplain Betty J. Wilson, 78, of Mexico, died at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at her residence in Mexico.

Mrs. Wilson was born on Feb. 3, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of C. F. and Orpha (Norfleet) Smith. On Feb. 8, 1946, in Centralia, she married Charles W. Wilson, who survives at the home.

   Mrs. Wilson had been a teacher in public schools, teaching for 16 years in rural schools and 16 years at Community R-VI School in Laddonia. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri Columbia and was certified as a Health Care Chaplain by the Missouri School of Religion Theological School in Jefferson City. She was a faithful volunteer Chaplain at Audrain Medical Center. Betty devoted a great deal of her life to teaching children and helping others through her ministry. She was affectionately called “Grandma” by many.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Fran Robley, Mexico, and her devoted friend Dennis Steele; and two granddaughters, Carina and Crisi Robley of Mexico.

Her twin sister, Peggy Barrett, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Randall A. Sawyer, Rev. Rick Smith, and Rev. Weldon Forman officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

   The family suggests that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or the Mexico Animal Shelter. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
