Melvin Lee Martin

  Melvin Lee Martin, 82, formerly of Mexico , died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at the Northgate Park Nursing Home in Florissant .

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico with the Rev. Randall Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Pickering Funeral Home.

Born April 21, 1922, in Mexico , Melvin was the son of Samuel Jesse and Pearl Barnett Martin. He attended the Fulton Public Schools and joined the Christian Church at an early age.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army on Dec. 23, 1945, he returned home where he purchased the Martin Hatchery in Fulton from his father and continued its operation for several years. Later he worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Post Office in downtown St. Louis . After retirement, he enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include several second cousins and two first cousins, Mary Dothage of Long Beach , Calif. , and Ruth Kent of Mexico .

His parents and one brother, S. J. Martin, preceded him in death.
