Florence McDowell, 92, of Mexico, died at 8:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2004 at Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, at 1 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Mexico with Rev. Duane Brush officiating.  Visitation will be from Noon until service time at the church.  Memorial services will be held Thursday at 10 am at the First Church of the Nazarene in Alva, Okla. with Rev. Bill Kalfus officiating. Burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery in Alva.

Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Dr. James McDowell, Douglas and Sam McDowell, Thomas Crum, Michael and Nathan Coyle, Christopher and Trent Tumbleson. Honorary Pallbearers are Caleb Coyle, Joshua McDowell, Bryan Tumbleson, Isaac and Isaiah Porter, and John Crum. Douglas McDowell will provide a vocal solo.

Mrs. McDowell was born in Cheyenne Valley, Okla. on May 18, 1912, the daughter of Aaron Newton and Cynthia Amelia (Stong) Edwards. On July 18, 1932 in Pratt, Kansas she married William Baker McDowell. Mr. McDowell preceded her in death April 6, 1987.

She had worked as a food service supervisor at the Beadles Rest Home. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mexico.

Survivors include one son, Dr. William S. McDowell and his wife Charlotte, Vandalia; two daughters, Phyllis McDowell, Mexico, and Shirley Crum and her husband Clarence, Centralia; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers Robert, Joseph, Jess, Elisha, Harry, Paul and Lewis; and one sister, Cecile Peterson.

The family suggests memorials be given to the First Church of the Nazarene or to Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
