   Vera V. Powell, 97, of Mexico, died at 6:05 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Mexico Manor.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico with Rev. Glenn Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery.

  Mrs. Powell was born on Nov. 23, 1906, in Vandalia, a daughter of Rasmus and Flora (Carrier) Kristofferson. On Oct. 7, 1928, she married Harold Franke who died Oct. 7, 1949. On Nov. 12, 1971, in Mexico, she married Raymond Powell who survives at the home.

   Vera enjoyed spending many winters in Arizona with her husband Raymond.

   In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Louis Franke and wife Bette, Sun City, Ariz., and Robert Franke, St. Louis; two sisters, Caroline Stroker and husband “Gene,” Vandalia, and Norma Jean Ohnemus, Cypress, Calif.; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

   The family suggests memorials be given to the Mexico Senior Nutrition Center, in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
