Adele Smith

Annie Adele Smith, 90, of Mexico, died at 4:50 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m., at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. David Nash officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born on Aug. 1, 1918, in Bachelor, a daughter of Robert Thurman and Tossie Annie Nichols Meador. On Sept. 20, 1938, in Bowling Green, she married Loren Lee Smith, who died on Nov. 23, 1954. She worked as a nurses’ aide for 23 years at Audrain Medical Center, and preferred to be in pediatrics. She was a member of First Christian Church in Mexico, was a foster grandparent and loved to work with children. She was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include one son, Robert Lee Smith and wife Julia, Mexico; one grandson, Curtis Smith and wife Aimee; one sister, Dorothy Hazlett, Mexico; five great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Three sisters, Ruth Erdel, Edna Johnson and Virginia Bonney, two brothers, Robert and Raymond Meador, two daughters, Loretta Ann and Connie Louise, and two great grandchildren preceded her in death.
Memorials may be given to the Children’s Therapy and Early Education School or the Mexico Senior Center. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265. |
