Lucile Ketter

Martha Lucile Ketter, 94, of Columbia, formerly of Mexico, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Kukuk officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Ketter was born May 11, 1914, in Shelbyville, a daughter of Grover Francis and Gleeta Pearle (Collier) Frye. She was a graduate of Shelbyville High School and attended Culver-Stockton College and the University of Missouri – Columbia. On June 22, 1946, in Canton, she married Lewis Eldon Ketter, who died on Feb. 2, 2006. She and her husband farmed near Mexico until they retired. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico.
She taught sixth grade at Canton Elementary School and was a member of the Canton Business and Professional Women. After moving to Mexico, she taught school in Audrain County rural schools including Hazel, Hedgedale and McClintic. She was active in the 4-H community and a project leader for the B&G Hustlers 4-H Club, “Make It of Wool” District Director, and taught Sunday School at Maple Grove Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Audrain County Historical Society and the Presser Hall Restoration Society.
Survivors include one son, James L. Ketter and wife Diane, Ashland; two daughters, Martha Kay Jochum and husband Ronald, Boonville, Ind., and Helen Ann Hurst, Sellersburg, Ind.; one brother, Edwin Eugene Frye, Canton; and one sister-in-law, Doris Henry and husband George, Neosho; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Lois Jane Ketter, three brothers and one sister.
