Kathryn Vaughn

Mary Kathryn Vaughn, 91, of Mexico, Mo., died on Jan. 5, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Rush Hill, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Callaway Gardens Cemetery in Fulton.

Mrs. Vaughn was born on Jan. 19, 1917, in Mineola, Mo., a daughter of Howard Lee and Marjorie May (White) Gregory. On Oct. 15, 1946 in Willmar, Minn., she married George A. Pierce, who preceded her in death. On May 20, 1969, in Moberly, Mo., she married Bill G. Vaughn, who died on Jan. 16, 1993.  She had worked as a Nurses’ Aide at Fulton State Hospital, Audrain Medical Center and the University of Missouri Hospital. After partial retirement in 1979, she provided private duty home care until 2001.

Survivors include three daughters, Margie Nelson, Paducah, Ky., Doris Gonterman, Auxvasse, Mo., and Margo Nichols, Rush Hill, Mo.; one son, Orr Lee Pierce, Mexico, Mo.; two sisters, Mollie Carter, Dripping Springs, Tex., and Edna Woods, Montgomery City. Mo.; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and stepmother Lena Haymart, she was preceded in death by a son Orland Howard Pierce, two sisters, Lena Louise Gilman and Peggy Robinson, and a grandson Nicholas Warren Stuart.

     Memorials may be given to Audrain Home Health and Hospice or the American Cancer Society. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
