Rose Hassen

Rose Hassen, 92, of Mexico died at 5:21 a.m. today, Friday, January 16, 2009, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Jan. 19 at Pickering Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Hassen was born on Nov. 27, 1916, in the country of Lebanon, a daughter of Alamadeen and Fakhreh (Fayad) Fayad. On Jan. 12, 1933, in Lebanon, she married Hassen H. Hassen, who died on April 18, 1982. She supported her husband in the family business, Hassen’s Creamery, until his retirement in 1966. After retirement they ran the Garage Sale Center on Liberty Street, the first “flea market style” shop in Mexico. Her main interest, however, was taking care of her family.
Survivors include two sons, Fred Hassen and wife Sue, Houston, Texas, and Sid Hassen and wife Madeline, Union; two daughters, Amelia Toney, Fond du Lac, Wisc. and Rosafay Hassen, Mexico; five grandsons and one granddaughter; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, two brothers preceded her in death.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
