Barbara March

Barbara Jean March, 79, of Mexico, passed away peacefully at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Barbara was born on July 24, 1929, in St. Charles, the daughter of James and Vera Virginia Tate DeCoster. After the death of her father, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Ray Oliver. She spent her childhood days in Mineola, along the Loutre Creek before moving to Montgomery City, where she graduated from high school. She then attended William Jewell College. On Nov. 25, 1959, in Montgomery City, she married Robert J. March, who survives at the home. They lived their entire married life in Mexico except for 13 years when they were transferred to Columbiana, Ohio, with Kaiser Refractories. Barbara worked throughout her married life until she and Bob moved back to Mexico to be near their families. Family was dear to Barbara’s heart, and she was surrounded by her loving family in her final days.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Cheri Erdel and husband Dan, and Lisa Rice and husband Rick, all of Mexico; a brother, Tom Oliver, and wife Phyllis, Montgomery City; a sister-in-law, Jean Sterner, Mexico; and five grandchildren, Peter Erdel and wife Amber, Austin, Texas; Callie Wilburn and husband Kevin, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Ben Erdel, New York City, N.Y.; Carly Wichern and husband Dave; and Whitney Rice, Mexico. She also left behind a sweet little brown dog named Bosco.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Terry Kukuk officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico where Mrs. March was a member. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
