Jean Giesler

Jean Giesler, 84, of Mexico, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Audrain Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 3 p.m., at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. David Nash officiating and the Rev. Randall Sawyer assisting. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Giesler was born on Sept. 23, 1924, in Amhurstburg, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Norma and Norman Lemon. She graduated from Long School and moved to Warrenton where she met her future husband, Frederick Giesler. She attended the St. Louis Business College and during World War II was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company. She served as a Red Cross nurse’s aide at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and as a hostess at the Kiel Auditorium USO.
She and Fred were married on Feb. 23, 1946, after he returned from three years of duty in the South Pacific and Japan. Their twin daughters were born in 1948, and in 1953 the family moved to Mexico, when Fred was transferred here by Nabisco. Their son was born in 1958.
Jean was a charter member of the Altrusa Club of Mexico and the Prairie Pine Quilt Guild. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Friends of the Library, Presser Hall Restoration Society, Audrain County Historical Society, AMC Auxiliary, the Mexico Country Club Women’s Golf Association, and the Duplicate Bridge Club.
Jean retired from Community Savings in 1987 after 27 years of service, starting with Citizens Savings Association. She had reached the position of Vice President, Accounting and Personnel.
Fred preceded her in death on April 1, 1993.
Surviving are daughters Linda Carlson and husband Dr. John V., Diana Henage and husband Terry, and son Douglas Giesler and wife Mary; eight grandchildren, Amy Nord and husband Chris, Milaca, Minn., Meredith Carlson, Brooklyn, N.Y., Kyle and Megan Henage, Ballwin, Mo., Lindsay and Nathan Opie, Smyrna, Tenn., Lee, Lauren, Jordan and Parker Giesler, Overland Park, Kans.; seven great grandchildren, Emma, Jack, Hannah, Zeke, Lillian, Alayna and Avery; and a sister, Marilyn Finson, of Walnut Creek, Calif.
Memorials may be made to Altrusa, the Audrain County Crisis Intervention Center, Children’s Therapy and Early Education School, or Special Olympics. |
