Marie Karbens

Marie Alta Gillette Karbens of Mexico, died peacefully in her slumber, Friday, March 27, 2009, at the age of 94.
Mrs. Karbens was born in Millsdale, lllinois, on July 3, 1914, the daughter of Alfred and Beulah Emiley. Marie moved to New Lenox, Illinois, in 1930 where she resided for the next 70 years and finally moved to Mexico, Missouri, in 2001. For the past two and a half years Marie resided with her son and daughter-in-law Paul and LaWanah Gillette of Mexico.
She was a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Elwood/Dorcas Chapter #5, a member of the New Lenox and Will County Historical Societies and former member of the New Lenox Chamber of Commerce and Will-Grundy Counties Illinois Genealogical Society.
Marie worked for the State of lllinois, Division of Waterways, as a Clerk Typist for 29 years, retiring in 1981.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Beulah Emiley, two husbands, G. Burton Gillette of New Lenox, and Michael Karbens of Cicero, Ill.; one sister, Beulah (Dinky) and husband Charles (Everett) Pugh; one son, Ronald A. Gillette of Mexico, and step-son Carl Karbens, of California.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Karen E. Skoien and husband Robert, Sr. of New Lenox, and Ms. Lynetta E. Britton of Mexico; one son LTC Paul E. Gillette, Sr. and his wife LaWanah of Mexico; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Arlene Oyer and husband Fred of Ontario, Oregon; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 - 12:00 noon, Monday, March 30, 2009, at the Maple Funeral Home, 24300 South Ford Street, Channahon, Illinois, with services immediately following visitation. Reverend Alan Holder of the Marley Community Church will be officiating at the services with nephew Father Thomas Stone conducting the graveside service. Interment will be in the family plot at the Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon, Illinois, directly across the street from the Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Robert E. Skoien, Jr., David Schleeter, Douglas Schleeter, Richard Schleeter, Royce Schleeter and Paul E. (Bert) Gillette II.
Memorial services will be held 11 am Saturday April 25, at the Missouri Military Academy Memorial Chapel with Rev. Randall A. Sawyer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the home of her son at 301 E. Love.
