Sylvia Clayborn
Sylvia Clayborn, 98, of Mexico, died at 10:35 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks in Mexico.
Funeral services will be at noon on Tuesday, Apr. 14, at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Norris Stevenson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Clayborn was born on Oct. 2, 1910, in Molino, a daughter of Harve and Annie Mae Powell Lue. She had worked as a cook at the Mexico Country Club for many years, then in housekeeping at Audrain Medical Center. She was a member of St. Paul CME Church, and sang in the chapel choir. She was married to James Clayborn who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one brother, Thomas Lue and wife Marylee, South Bend, Ind.; one sister, Beatrice Jackson, Mexico; two grandchildren, Tracy and Deidre Clayborn, Compton, Calif.; and three great-grandsons, Brett, Ricky, and Ryan Clayborn, Compton, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were two sons, Robert and James W., one daughter, Lucille, four brothers, Merle, Bob, Earl and James Lue, two sisters Erma Hutchen and Willie Mae Miller and one granddaughter Deltphia Jackson.
Memorials may be given to the St. Paul CME Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
