Alan Coatsworth



Alan DeWitt Coatsworth, 85, of Mexico, died at 10:42 a.m., Monday, September 7, 2009, at Audrain Medical Center.


Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 10, at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 6 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.


Mr. Coatsworth was born June 17, 1924, in Mexico, a son of Alan and Cynthia Anne (Herrold) Coatsworth. On Nov. 18, 1953, in Benton City he married Joyce Ann Surber who survives at the home.


Alan was a World War II Veteran having served in the Air Force. He was a member of Love Street Christian Church where he had previously served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a graduate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.


He was the 4th generation of Coatsworth s in the Lumber business in Mexico. He was in the business for 30 years, first with Economy Lumber and later LaCrosse Lumber. He retired in 1983.


In addition to his wife, Joyce, he is survived by one daughter, Jane E. Coatsworth, Columbia; one granddaughter, Emily Coatsworth; and one brother, Robert Coatsworth and his wife Mary, Springfield.


He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Coatsworth; and one sister, Cynthia Gilman.


Memorials may be given to Love Street Christian Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
