Allen Joseph Callais

Allen Joseph Callais, 67, of Mexico, died at 11:20 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at his home.

Allen was born Jan. 1, 1943, in New Orleans, La., son of Alces and Camella (Buras) Callais.

Mr. Callais started his musical career when he was 6 years old and from 1983-1987 he toured with the band Atlanta. After the band disbanded he returned to New Orleans and played in various clubs. In 2001 he moved to Mexico, due to declining health.

Survivors include his companion of several years Oneta Brown, Mexico, three daughters, Kristin Callais, Marietta, Ga. Kim Denley, Slidell, La., and Tiffany Starsbeck, Labadie, Mo.; one son, Joseph Allen Schulten, Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Ernie Roberts, Houston, Tex. and Ronald Callais, Cut Off, La.; and one sister, Anna Robino, Golden Meadow, La.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At his request Mr. Callais was cremated and there will be no services.
