Bettie Jean Duncan



Bettie Jean Duncan, 73, of Mexico, died at 12:15 p.m., Aug. 1, 2008, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Pickering Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Ingram officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Duncan was born on March 20, 1935, in Mexico, a daughter of Walter Atley and Lutie Fay Newbrough Young. On Feb. 28, 1953, in Mexico, she married Billie G. Duncan, who survives at the home. She was a member of Kentucky Road Christian Church. She volunteered with 4-H, Girl Scouts, as an aide at Mexico Middle School and Mexico High School and was a volunteer in the Juvenile Office and at Happy House Daycare Center where she later worked as a cook.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Billie G. Duncan Jr. and wife Jennifer of Raymore, a daughter, Sheila R. VanGennip and husband Keith of St. Charles, one brother Charles T. Young and wife Pauline, Centralia; two sisters, Dorothy M. Talbert, Mexico, and Mary Alice Green and husband Jim, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Zoe Renee Duncan, Billy Gene Trey Duncan III, and Trinity LynMarie Duncan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Marsha Rae, and one brother, Walter Howard Young.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the Kentucky Road Christian Church or American Cancer Society/Audrain Relay for Life. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265
