Betty L. Owen

Betty L. Owen, 86, of Mexico, died at 2:10 a.m., Wednesday, November 04, 2015, at SSM/Audrain in Mexico. She had been a resident at King's Daughters Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday Nov. 6, at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Owen officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Betty was born in St. Louis, Mo. on Nov. 22, 1928, a daughter of Charles Taylor and Edna Ellen (Jones) Fry. On June 25, 1950, in Mexico she was married to Walter G. Owen. Mr. Owen preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2008.

Betty was a dedicated and hard worker. She worked as a dietician for Pin Oaks and food service for Community R-6 and the Mexico School District retiring from there in 2011. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years. She loved square dancing with her husband and was a loyal Cardinal Baseball fan. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She made an effort to attend as many of their activities and sporting events as possible.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Owen and wife Betty, Mexico, and Bobby Owen and wife Shirley, Mexico; one daughter, Brenda Wilburn and husband Dave, Mexico; six grandchildren, Joey Owen and wife Gayle, Fulton, Scott Wilburn and wife Dawn, Mexico, Jeff Owen and wife Jaime, KC, Mo, Kristina Washer and husband John A, Liberty, Kevin Wilburn and wife Callie, Mexico, and Jeremy Horton and wife Melanie, St. Louis; 15 great-grandchildren, Jamie, Justin, Jarrett, Austin, Juliette, Colton, Olivia, Aubrey, Elin, Kendall, Insley, Liv, Adelyn, Jack, and Owen; and she was expecting her first Great-Great Grandchild in the spring from her great-grandson Justin.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Patton, one infant brother, and one grandson, Damon Owen.
