Carl Robert May, 84, of Centralia, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Pin Oaks Nursing Center in Mexico. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico with Rev. Jerry Ostrom officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at a later date in Greenfield, Mass. Mr. May was born on Jan. 19, 1921, in Santiago, Dominican Republic a son of Charles Melbourne and Edith May Lamb May. On April 27, 1942, he married Margaret Elizabeth Patterson who died on Aug. 18, 1987. On July 16, 1989, in Centralia he married Florence Ball Alexander who survives at the home in Centralia. Mr. May served during WWII in the Navy. He entered into the service in Oct. 1942 and was released in Nov. 1945 as an Aviation Machinst Mate, Aviation Mechanic. His tour included assignments in Honolulu, Patuxent River, Maryland, and Quonset Point, RI. He was a machinist with Bendix in Greenfield, Mass. Robert was a member of American Legion Post #113 in Centralia and was also active in the 40 and 8 of the American Legion. He was active in the Centralia Senior Center and was an amateur photographer for many years. He loved music and had performed "Taps" for various veterans' organizations. He also participated in Civil War Reenactments. In addition to his wife Florence, his survivors include four sons, Gerald May and wife Laura, Richmond, Va., Phillip May, Henderson, NC, Charles May and wife Nancy, Gettysburg, Pa., and Donald May and wife Diane, South Hadley, Mass.; a daughter, Rebecca May and partner Bobbi Miller, Portsmouth, NH; two step-sons, Archie Alexander and wife Doris, Mexico, and Merville Alexander and wife Barbara, Mexico; a step-daughter, Lorene Jaeger, Mexico; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren. The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to the AMC Foundation cancer control program. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
