Charles H. Burt

Charles H. Burt, 90, of Mexico, died at 8:28 a.m., Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Audrain Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with Kenneth Hoover officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Burt was born on Sept. 4, 1916, in Middletown, the son of Henry Carson and Maude (Peyton) Burt. On Dec. 16, 1939, in Jefferson City, he married Margaret Goldsberry, who died on July 10, 2000. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Mr. Burt joined the Green Company in 1934. He worked one year in dry press and several as a transfer car operator before moving to the machine shop where he became an expert box and die machinist, a position he held for most of the 39 years he worked in the machine shop. During this time, he made thousands of special dies with hand fittings for intricate designed refractory products. He retired at age 62.

After retiring from the Green Co., he managed the Westlake Rental Department for several years. After that, he had also worked at Erdel s Rental Department, and at S & S Electric.

Survivors include one son, James C. Burt and wife Gloria, Columbia; one daughter, Linda E. Reed, Mexico; one sister, Florence Weber, St. Louis; three grandchildren, David Reed, Denver, Colo., Kevin Burt, Moberly, and Kerry Timms, Columbia; and three great grandchildren, Matthew Burt, Chris Poe, and Paige Timms.

In addition to his wife, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
