David Thompson, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at his home in Clarence, Missouri surrounded by his family.

David was born in Williamsburg, Missouri on July 19, 1939 to Virgil Thompson and Laura Barker. David graduated high school from Mexico, Missouri in 1959 where he met his high school sweetheart, Luella Thompson (Borcherding), and they were united in marriage for 64 years (May 28th, 1960). Following high school, David joined the Navy where he served from 1960-1963 as an electrician.

David worked at the Kaiser/National Brick Plant in Mexico, Missouri for 35 years, where he retired. He later drove a semi for several years and enjoyed tinkering in the shop and repairing vehicles as a mechanic.  David enjoyed telling and writing stories equally, and enjoyed making others laugh. Many of his stories will live on today.

David was an active member of Grand Prairie Baptist church in Auxvasse, Missouri for many years where he served as a deacon of the church, and later attended Union Christian church. He enjoyed drinking coffee with his coffee "buddies," telling stories, fishing, and riding tractors.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his three children; Darrell Thompson (Vicki), Mark Thompson (Andrea), and Dawn Johnson (Blue). Siblings; Edward Thompson (Barb), Carol Hoener (Leroy), and two sisters. Several Grandchildren; Tonya (Robert), Dylan (Cheyenne), Sami (Kyle), Dezirae (Kyle), Koty (Katrena), and Xavier. Several Great-Grandchildren; Presley, Reagan, Felicity, Jemma, Ari, Damion, Kiefer, Carter, Millie, and one expected in March 2025; also several extended and adopted family members.

David is preceded in death by his mother Laura (Oscar), father Virgil (Lula), and brother Carl.

The visitation will be held at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 5-7 p.m.

The funeral will be held at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Lyndell Thompson and Eddie Schoeneberg officiating.

Graveside services will be held at Mt. Horeb Church Cemetery in Williamsburg, Missouri following the funeral. Meal for family to follow at Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse.

Memorials may be made to Luella Thompson to be used for the David Thompson Vocational Scholarship Fund.  They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
