Smokey Woods

Donald Smokey N. Woods, 92, of Mexico, died at 9:25 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Audrain Medical Center.

A memorial service will be Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at First Christian Church, with Rev. Randall Sawyer officiating. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Woods was born September 10, 1918, in Moberly, Mo., a son of Joseph R. and Mary E. (Tumblin) Woods. On April 17, 1948, in Mexico, he married Dorothy Darlene Stuart, who survives.

Smokey was a member of the First Christian Church. He was the oldest living past president of the Mexico Jaycees, oldest living past Master of Hebron Masonic Lodge #354, and a member of the Valley of Columbia Scottish Rite.

In addition to his wife survivors include; one daughter-in-law, Cameron Merrow, Arlington, Va; one brother, Robert E. Woods, Plano, Tex.; four grandchildren, Alexandra Woods Bruemmer, Caroline Woods Bruemmer, Carlyle E. Bruemmer, and John Russell Bruemmer, all of Arlington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Smokey was preceded in death by his parents, one son, M. Alan Woods, one brother Joseph Roy Woods Jr. and three sisters, Joan States, Mary Lou Means, and Dorothy Eisele.

Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
