Duane L. "Andy" Anderson, 88 of Mexico, died at 6:20 pm Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Pin Oaks Living Center.

Visitation will be at 2:00-4:00 pm, Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Pin Oaks Living Center in the south dining room.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 pm Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Springdale Cemetery in Chase, Kansas.

Andy was born, July 22, 1936 in Clarinda, Iowa, son to Marion and Crystal (Burnside) Anderson. On November 27, 1958, in Chase, Kansas, he married Jo Allene Layton who precedes him in death.

Andy's parents owned a grocery store called Anderson's Market and they lived above it. His family lived in Rock Port, Missouri for a while before moving to Hiawatha, Kansas, where Andy attended school and played basketball and ran track.  He graduated in 1954. Andy began his college education at Highland Junior College before transferring to Emporia State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1959.

Andy was a veteran having served in the Army National Guard. Throughout his life, Andy held a variety of roles that reflected his dedication and work ethic. He served as Assistant Manager at F. W. Woolworth's and Montgomery Ward, worked as a bookkeeper for a welding and trucking company and Sun Ray DX Oil Company, and was a salesman for Tom's Candy and Pastry. He later spent 15 years as an Assistant Manager for several grocery companies in Girard, Kansas, retiring in 1998. Retirement didn't slow him down — he continued working as a school bus driver until 2014.

Sports were a lifelong passion for Andy. He loved watching nearly every sport and especially enjoyed cheering on his children and grandchildren in basketball, soccer, golf, track, cross country, football, baseball, softball, and tennis. He also coached several of these sports in both Tulsa and Girard.

Andy was a man of faith, attending Open Door Fellowship Church and serving as an elder, treasurer, and greeter for many years at Victory Life Center. His kindness, generosity, and welcoming spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Survivors include two sons, Craig (Susie) Anderson, of Leawood, KS, and Jeffrey (Angie) Anderson, of Mexico; one daughter, Stacy (Jim) Kingsland, of Wichita, KS; and seven grandchildren, Jillian (Zach) Coombs, of Overland Park, KS, Mark Anderson, of Overland Park, KS, Jason (Shelby) Anderson, of Columbia, MO, Corey (Julie) Kingsland, of Olathe, KS, Jon (Melissa) Anderson, of Mt. Vernon, IA, Jake (Abby) Anderson, of Mt. Vernon, IA, and Ashleigh (Keaton) Wiechman, of Bee Cave, TX; eleven great-grandchildren, Davi Heard, Deja Kingsland, Lucas Wiechman, Emmett Anderson, James Anderson, Elizabeth Kingsland, Ella Anderson, Lyla Wiechman, William Anderson, Lucy Anderson, and Theophilus (Theo) Kingsland; and one sister-in-law Carla (John) Hill of Russell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and one brother-in-law Larry Garman; and one sister-in-law, Luella Garman.
