Edith Evalyn Anderson, 98, of Mexico, died at 8:23 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012, at Pin Oaks/Golden Living Center in Mexico. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Knipmeyer and Rev. Mark Avery officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home. There will also be a graveside service at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Cherokee City Cemetery in Cherokee, Ks. with the Rev. Ricky Knight officiating.
Edith was born November 15, 1913, in Scotts Bluff, Neb., a daughter of Clinton Arch and Pearl (Spencer) Loomer. On Nov. 4, 1935 in Pittsburg, Ks., she married James Monroe Anderson, who preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1967.
Edith had worked as an executive housekeeper and a private care provider at hospitals and in homes. She had also worked for the Census Bureau. She was a member of Bible Holiness Church in Bowling Green, Mo. where she served as both a secretary and as treasurer. She enjoyed sewing and quilt making and had made wedding dresses.
She is survived by three daughters, Evalyn Colbert and husband Clyde of Mexico, Nancy Shinn and husband Carl of Holts Summit, Mo., and Grace Nelson and husband John of Hallsville, Mo.; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband James she is preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters, her parents, and two infant grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Independence Bible School in Independence, Ks. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
