Edward L. Hines, 82, of Mexico, passed away at 12:41 a.m. Wednesday December 14, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday December 19, 2022, at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Zane Whorton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home with an Elks service at 6 p.m.

Ed was born January 11, 1940, in Fairmount, West Virginia, the son of John Vincent and Alice (Ray) Hines. On June 27, 1987, in Mexico, he married Carol Elaine Prior, who survives.

Ed was a veteran having served in the US Army from 1962 to 1965. He worked for Harbison-Walker Refractories for 30 years, retiring February 28, 1998. He also had worked with the Fulton Police Department.

He was a member of First Christian Church where he had served as Chairman of the Deacons, Elders, and Trustees, member of the Mexico Elks Lodge, Lions Club, TPA, and Masonic Lodge. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Handi Shop, and Mexico Parks and Recreation. He also had served on the Fulton City Council.

In addition to his wife Carol, survivors include one son, Charles Gard, of Columbia; three daughters, Carol Ann Sumner and longtime friend, John Ehrhardt, of Columbia, Dianna Lee Hines, of Fulton, and Cheryl Hardt and husband Mike, of Columbia; two sisters, Cecilia Coven, of Aurora, Ohio, and Cindy Heil, of Akron, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Rory Hart, Dillion Robbins, Erika Robbins, Kyle Gilleland, Brittany Sumner, Amber Gard, Emily Rodenbaugh, and Danielle DeYoung; and three great-grandchildren, Lucy Rodenbaugh, Juniper DeYoung, and Eloise DeYoung.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Shawn Michael Sumner; and one brother, Robert Hines.

The family suggests memorials be given to the First Christian Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
