Betsy Kirgan

Elizabeth M. "Betsy" Kirgan, 73, of Mexico, died at 6:15 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks in Mexico.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2012 at First Christian Church in Mexico with Rev. David Nash and Rev. Randall Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Sunday at Pickering Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Betsy was born April 18, 1939, in DuQuoin, Ill., a daughter of Harvey Allen and Letha Marie (Baker) White. On May 28, 1960, in Versailles, Ill., she married Robert J. "Bob" Kirgan who survives at the home.

She graduated from Brown County High School in Mount Sterling, Ill., a member of the class of 1957. She also graduated from Gem City College in Quincy, Ill.

Betsy was a very active member at First Christian Church of Mexico. She was Elder and Elder Emeritus, Deacon, had served as Treasurer of the congregation and served on several committees through the years. She was also a member of the Bell Choir and was a long time member of the Chancel Choir. She was also active in her community having served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, she sang in the community choir that presented the Messiah each year, and she was past president of the Jaycee Wives. Betsy supported her children in all their activities including Khoury League and Legion Baseball.

Betsy was a licensed insurance agent and secretary. She worked over 30 years before retiring. First for Bob Brown MFA and later for Larry Bedford Shelter Insurance.

In addition to her husband Bob, survivors include one son, Tim Kirgan and wife Monica, Ankeny, Ia.; two daughters, Martha Hagan and husband David, Mexico, and Carol Richards and husband Paul, Liberty, Mo.; one brother, Charles White and wife Gail, Wichita, Kan.; and six grandchildren, Ryan and Erica Kirgan, Adam and Matthew Richards, and Rebecca Hagan and Ashley Hagan Perry.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Martha Franklin.
