Ernest Monroe "Junior" Smith Jr., 90, of Mexico, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 20, 2016, at SSM Saint Mary's Hospital - Audrain.


Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday Dec. 23, 2016, at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Bailey officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in the Auxvasse Cemetery.


Mr. Smith was born July 1, 1926, son of Ernest Monroe Smith Sr. and Lena Mae (Senor) Smith. On June 8, 1944 he married Edna Marie Dollens who preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2013.


Mr. Smith was an Army Air Force veteran and served in the Philippines during World War II.


He worked for 46 years at A.P. Green Refractories retiring in 1989. He worked in the Air Hammer Department. He was proud of the fact that they made materials for NASA.


His hobby was restoring John Deere tractors.


Junior is survived by four sons, Ernest Monroe Smith III (Doris), Evansville, IN, Glen Thomas Smith (Bonnie), Montgomery City, MO, Jerry Lee Smith (Lynne), Auxvasse, and David Ray Smith (Nicki), Fulton; two sisters, Anna Mae Forbis, St. Charles, and Peggy Johnson, O'Fallon, MO; one brother, Donald Smith, Brunswick, GA; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, and two infant grandchildren, David Ray Smith Jr. and Michael Smith.
