Frank Frederick Sutton, 91, of Mexico, died at 7 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2011, at Audrain Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday August 30 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of the service at the Church. Burial will be at the East Lawn Memorial Park.
Frank was born May 26, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Frederick Adelbert and Maudie Mae (Baugh) Sutton. On August 23, 1947, in Salina, Kansas, he married Alice Frances Crow who survives him. He graduated in 1950 from Kansas State University with a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine (DVM). He practiced veterinary medicine in Albany, Mo. from 1950-1955, and in Mexico from 1955-1987 at the Mexico Animal Hospital where he was well known for his large animal care.
He was a Marine veteran serving during World War II from 1941-1945. He was in the First-Offensive at Guadalcanal and then in New Zealand. He was later stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, training dogs for scout and patrol work in the South Pacific.
Frank was a member of and served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico. He served on the Mexico School Board from 1963-1975) including serving as President from 1973- 1975. He was a member of Pioneer in Education for the Mexico Public Schools in 1986, as well. He was a member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association. He was a 50-year member of Rotary Club, serving as Rotary President in Albany, Mo. in 1954 and in Mexico in 1960. He enjoyed working on his farm raising cattle and woodworking at home.
In addition to his wife, Alice, survivors include his three sons, Fred Sutton and his wife Karen, of Boardman, Ohio, Dave Sutton of Columbia, and Tim Sutton of Columbia; one daughter, Sara Mileski and her husband Michael, of Bozeman, Montana; five grandchildren, Katie, Ellen, Sam, Jill and Molly.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
