Gerald Lee
Jones
Apr 12, 1945 — Nov 18, 2025
Thompson
Gerald Lee "Jerry" Jones, 80, of Thompson, passed away at 4:53 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Zane Whorton officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pickering Funeral Home.
Jerry was born in Mexico on April 12, 1945. He is the son of John Woodrow and Irene (Slonaker) Jones.
He farmed in the area most of his life, starting at the age of 14. He loved being on the farm. It's said that he still had every piece of equipment he had ever owned, with Massey Ferguson being his favorite brand. He was a dedicated son and took great pride in caring for his parents for many years. He was a good neighbor and enjoyed reminiscing about all the neighbors and friends from over the years—some still living and some already gone.
He could very often be found at the Mexico Senior Center, sharing a meal and plenty of good conversations with friends. He also enjoyed meals at the 54 Diner, where he would often strike up conversations with strangers just to be friendly. One thing you could always count on was that when you asked Jerry how he was doing, his answer, more often than not, was, "I'm just peachy!"
Jerry is survived by one sister, Marjie Kay Black, of Columbia; and one brother-in-law, R.M. Gordon, of Centralia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Irene Louise Gordon; and one brother-in-law, Oscar Ray Black.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Mexico Senior Nutrition Center. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
