Harold E. Berrey

Harold Eugene Berrey, 80, of Thompson, died at 8:52 p.m. Nov. 13, 2007, at Golden Living/Gamma Road in Wellsville.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Weldon Forman officiating. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Berrey was born in Thompson on Feb. 22, 1927, a son of William Turner and Ruth Estelle (Carpenter) Berrey. He graduated from Centralia High School. On May 9, 1947, in Centralia, he married Wanda Lou Wiest, who died March 31, 2001. He served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force. After discharge, he began working at A.P. Green Refractories as a special forming line operator, stiff mud. He retired in 1989 after 42 years.

He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Thompson, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He and his wife spent several winters in Texas. He loved family gatherings, especially when all the grandkids were together.

Survivors include three sons, Harold Gene Berrey and friend Karen, Centralia, Richard William Berrey and fiancée Brigitte McCrea, Fulton, J. Chris Berrey and A. J. McDowell, Quincy; two daughters, Vanessa Miller and husband David L., Mexico, Susan Baysinger and fiancé Joe Baker, Washington; brother J. C. Berrey and wife Pat, Centralia; sister Lucille Berrey, Mexico; sister-in-law Juanita Mechlin and husband Paul, Mexico, cousin Bobby Kirchner, Fulton; nine grandchildren, Debbie O Rourke, Robert Eugene Berrey, John C. Berrey, Kimberley S. Schoening, G. Scott Baysinger, Michael R. Baysinger, Darin W. Berrey, Keith Miller and Tony Miller; 18 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

His parents, one sister, three brothers and one great grandchild preceded him in death.

Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church, and sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
