Helen L. Gibbs
Helen L. Gibbs, 95, of Hillsboro, Ill., formerly of Mexico, died on Sept. 13, 2007, at Hillsboro Health and Rehab Center.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, in the shelter at Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Robert H. Marty officiating. There will be no visitation. Pickering Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Mrs. Gibbs was born on Jan. 6, 1912, in Springdale, Ark., the daughter of Joseph Bondurant and Sarah Evaline (Hedges) Lacy. She was a graduate of Vandalia High School in 1929, and completed a commercial course after high school. On Oct. 10, 1937, in California, Mo., she married Arthur Gibbs, who died on Dec. 29, 1984. She had been employed in clerical positions at A.P. Green Co., from 1934 until 1945, and Missouri Power & Light from 1948 until 1960 when she retired.
She enjoyed traveling to see what the rest of the world and its people were like, and was grateful for the wonderful Sunday school teachers, workers and pupils in the Mexico First Baptist Church Primary Department. She took pleasure in helping individuals further their educations, and the religious colleges that helped so many; nursing home, a children s home, and clubs that do so much. She loved people, birds and animals, and the environment. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ironton, the Audrain County Historical Society, and the World Wildlife Fund Partners in Conservation.
Survivors include one niece, Shirley Gunther, St. Louis; and one niece-in-law, Charlene Hitz, Staunton, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor s choice.
