Helen Virginia Wells, 86, of Mexico, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at Pin Oaks Nursing Center. Mrs. Wells was born on June 5, 1919, in Vandalia, a daughter of William and Ethel Jackson Bryant. She was a graduate of Lincoln University, taught grade school in Rolla, and served as office manager for Richardson Collision Body Shop until she retired. In June 1971 in Vandalia she married Elgin H. Wells, who survives at the home in Mexico. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mexico. In addition to her husband, survivors include a stepson, Dr. Elgin Eugene Wells and wife Carolyn, Pearland, Texas; a brother, William Bryant, Philadelphia, Pa.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Shepard and husband Orey, and Edith Salmon, all of Vandalia. Her parents and five brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services for Mrs. Wells will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery.
