James Max Brumit, 85, of Mexico, formerly of Ottawa, Kansas and the Arlington Texas area, passed from this life Wednesday March 8, 2017, at Missouri Veterans Home and was buried at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, Jacksonville, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of Pickering Funeral Home.

Mr. Brumit was born in Ottawa, Kansas on February 10, 1932, the son of Earl "Mike" Hynes and Mamie Cram Nutt Hynes and later adopted by his step-father Leonard Brumit. Max first married and later divorced Elaine Brumit (survives). They had 2 children, a daughter Cynthia (survives) and a son Brad (survives, wife Aimee and 4 grandchildren). He later married and divorced Wanda Brumit, 9 step-children and their familes (7 step-children survive). He was then widowed when his third wife Mary Brumit, of Mexico, passed away in 2015, 5 step-children and their families (4 step-children survive).

He was also preceded in death by a paternal grandfather S. B. Hynes, a maternal grandmother Mary (Miller) Cram, his father, mother, step-father, a maternal half-brother Rollin Nutt, and a paternal half-brother William Coleman (born Hynes).

Max attended school in both Lawrence and Ottawa Kansas and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1951. That same year he joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War era. Max returned to Ottawa after finishing his military service and began working in the civil engineering field, first as a Surveyor's Assistant and later became a certified Surveyor. He worked in Kansas, Missouri, and later Texas, where he retired from the city of Arlington after 14 years in Engineering Services.

Max and Mary moved back to Mexico in 2012, after living a few years in Cleburne, Texas where Max was baptized at the Cleburne Bible Church. In Mexico, Max became a member of the United Methodist Church, and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He volunteered with the Mexico Senior Center and the Mexico Missouri Veterans Home. Max's favorite pastime was auto racing, and as a young man in Ottawa he even co-owned a sprint car. He also enjoyed spending time with friends in Mexico, especially Ron Holbrook, Joyce Thomas, and Vicky Hamilton. Max's children wish to thank his devoted friends for their assistance to Max at the end of his life.
