James Edward Swon




James Edward "Jim" Swon, 86, of Mexico, died at 11:55 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, at Missouri Veteran's Home in Mexico.



A visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Pickering Funeral Home. Military Honors will be observed at 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.



Mr. Swon was born July 19, 1925, in Greenlawn, Mo., a son of Claude Ely "Jim" and Gracie Leona (Yancy) Swon. On July 12, 1947, in Hannibal, he married Patsy Jean Schutte who survives.



James was a veteran of WWII serving in the Marines. He worked as a truck driver most of his life.



In addition to his wife survivors include three sons, Larry Swon and wife Alma, Bruce Swon and wife Sharon, and Gayle Swon, all of Mexico; one brother, Orval "Doc" Swon, Perry; three sisters, Doris Warren, Springfield, Mary Wasson, Perry, and Joe Lane, Laddonia; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Crabtree and Virginia Walton.



In lieu of flowers the family asks memorials be made to the Missouri Veteran's Home residents fund. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
