Jean Zumbehl

Jean Zumbehl, 84, of Mexico, formally of Auxvasse, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Pin Oaks Nursing Home in Mexico, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse with Pastor Eddie Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Auxvasse City Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home.

Jean was born on March 17, 1942, in St. Louis, the daughter of Almon and Frances (Taylor) Scott. On April 10, 1971 she married Roy Zumbehl, who preceded her in death on July 22, 2025.

Jean dedicated many years of her life to helping families as a Parents-As-Teachers educator, a role that reflected her caring heart and love for helping others learn and grow. She was a faithful member of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church; she found great joy in reading her Bible, teaching Sunday school, and leading Bible classes. Jean loved sharing her faith with both children and adults. She was also a gifted storyteller who could captivate a room with her tales and warm personality. In earlier years, she enjoyed spending time in her garden and preserving the fruits of her labor through canning. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and love for sharing her knowledge and faith left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas “Tom” Richards of Auxvasse, Douglas Richards (Beth) of St. Charles, Stephen Zumbehl (Paula) of St. Charles, and Patrick Zumbehl of Mexico; one daughter, Gayle Hofeling (Gary) of O’Fallon; one daughter-in-law, Casey Zumbehl, of Wellsville; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Roy; two brothers, Joe Anderson and Jack Scott; and one sister, Jody Kenton.
