Jessie M. Jackson, 79 of Mexico, died at 4:05 am Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Pin Oaks Living Center.

Funeral services will be at 11am, Monday December 23, 2019 at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Ayanna Shivers officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Jessie was born, March 27, 1940 in Sturgeon, MO., a daughter to Otis Barnes and Christine Wilson. On July 24, 1963, in Mexico, she married Herbert F. Jackson, Jr. who survives.

She graduated from MHS, class of 1958.  She was a seamstress in her early career at Bobby Brooks, and later worked at A.B Chance in Centralia, MO before retiring.

Mrs. Jackson was an active member of Saint Paul CME Church in Mexico, where the pastor is Rev. LaVelna Day. She served her church, community, and she volunteered at the Senior Citizen Center for several years. She loved the children dearly and assisted families in need that she came in contact with.  One of her favorite hobbies was bingo and she loved to walk and exercise.  She was an amazing cook and baker.  Many kids can attest to her being like a second mother and she had a hand in raising them.  Her strongest character trait was she was a fighter and she fought until her last breath.

In addition to her husband survivors include one son, Barry Jackson of Atlanta; one step-son, Harry Williams of Los Angeles, CA; one step-daughter, Debbie Thomas, Minneapolis; three brothers, Stanley  Barnes, Mexico, Theodore Barnes, Clark, MO, and Gary Barnes, Columbia; two sisters, Vernitta Barnes, Seattle, WA, and Vickie Barnes Hargraves, KC, MO; three grandchildren, Ashley Jones, Philadelphia, PA, Christopher Jackson, and Parker Jackson;  one great-granddaughter, Alana Jessie Marie Adams; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Christine Jones; one son, Tracy Jackson; two brothers, Leroy Barnes and James Barnes; and two sisters, Ruthie Barnes and Darlene Davenport.

The family suggests memorials be given to Mexico Dialysis Clinic or St. Paul CME Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
