Jessie Taylor, of Mexico, died at her home Saturday afternoon, March 10, 2012.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 17th at her home 14606 Hwy JJ. There will be no other service.

Mrs. Taylor was born December 9, 1919, in Fairfield, Iowa, a daughter of Margaret Black and Ralph H. Stever. On June 22, 1942, she married Thomas J. Taylor who preceded her in death in 1999. She was a graduate of Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa with a B.S., and from the University of Missouri, Columbia with a Master's in Education.

She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Rebecca Taylor, St. Louis; two sons, Dr. Jim Taylor and his wife Pamela, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Dr. Steve Taylor, Mexico; three grandsons Benjamin and wife Lesley, Grapevine, Texas, Michael and wife Jennifer, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Jon and wife Erin, Centennial, Colorado; two great grandsons, Jackson and Andrew, and one great granddaughter, Sydney; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Taylor had been a teacher for 20 years in Iowa and Missouri, ending her career at Community R-VI School in Laddonia.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Mexico, where she had taught Sunday School and served one term as Chairman of the congregation. She also was a member of Chapter HD, P.E.O.; GFWC Federated Club; the Audrain Historical Society; Helping Hands Circle of King's Daughters; the Area Retired Teachers Association, the Beta Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the National Honor Society. She delivered Meals on Wheels for the Senior Nutrition Center for over 20 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mexico Area YMCA or to First Christian Church of Mexico. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
