John C. "Johnny" Davidson, 84, of Mexico, died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday Feb. 5, 2016, at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Harley officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
John was born on Nov. 28, 1931, in Rush Hill, Mo., a son of Spencer T. and Mary (Allen) Davidson. On Aug. 8, 1953, in Mexico, he married Lorene Ferguson who survives.
He had worked at Erdel's Hardware from 1953 until 1960 when he began a career with the US Postal Service. He was promoted to Assistant Postmaster in Mexico and later served at Postmaster at Mokane from 1978 until he retired in 1987.
John served in the US Navy during the Korean War and retired from the Naval Reserves as a Chief Petty Officer.
He was a member of Southside Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club in Mokane and the American Legion in Mexico.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Glenn Davidson, Fulton; one daughter, Lana Baclesse and husband Terry, Mexico; two brothers, Robert Davidson and wife Sue, Memphis, Tenn., and James "Jim" Davidson, Columbia; one sister, Wanda Garnett, Laddonia; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Knipp; one son-in-law, Gary Knipp; one grandson, Johnny Knipp; seven brothers; and three sisters.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
