John Harrison Wilson



John Harrison Wilson, 81, of Mexico, died at 6:30 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2006, at his home in Mexico. Mr. Wilson had formerly lived in Vandalia.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico with the Rev. Marvin Jones officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico.


Mr. Wilson was born May 4, 1925, in Mexico, a son of William Clarence and Ida Price (Harrison) Wilson. On January 9, 1948, in Mexico he married Sylvia Hursman. Mrs. Wilson survives at the home.


John was a World War II Veteran serving in the Navy. He worked for 27 years at C and E Refractories in Vandalia. He also worked various other places including, Mexico Refractories, A. P. Green Refractories, A. B. Chance, and the Coca-Cola plant in Mexico. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia.


In addition to his wife survivors include one son, Mike Wilson and his wife Debbie, Vandalia; two daughters, Janice Divins, Vandalia and Karen Greenwood and husband Howard, Springfield; also raised in the home a granddaughter, Tracy Wilson and her son Jordan; one brother, Glen Wilson, Grand Junction, Colorado; two sisters, Pat Rusher, Marionville, and Wilma Ruth Batus, Burbank, California;seven grandchildren, Robert, Ryanand Tracy Wilson, Christina Harper, Lindsay Divins, Hannah and Patrick Greenwood; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Rylan and Jordan Wilson, and Cameron Harper.


He was preceded in death byfive brothers andtwo sisters.


The family suggests memorials be given to the Audrain Home Health and Hospice. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
