Leo Dean Swaim

Leo Dean Swaim, 78, of Martinsburg, died at 4:52 am, Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Park Side Manor in Columbia. A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m., at the Martinsburg Community Church with Rev. John Blass officiating.

Leo was born on Sept. 15, 1933, in Afton, Ia., s son of Paul Lloyd Swaim and Lola (Metts) Swaim. He graduated from high school in Martinsburg, Mo. and served in the US Army. On Nov. 23, 1973, in Mexico, he married Marie M. (Schreimann) Mantle, who preceded him in death Nov. 2, 2011.

Leo and Marie resided at Swaim's Park for 33 years during the summers and he enjoyed spending time with family and playing cards; especially each deer season. They spent winters at the Dolphin RV Park in Donna, Tx., where he enjoyed spending time with their winter Texan friends.

He is survived by one daughter, Pam Swaim and Danny Hager of Columbia; three sons, Mike Swaim and wife Tara of Springdale Ar., Kenny Mantle and wife Linda of Callao Mo. and Roger Mantle and wife Frances of Mexico; two brothers, Walter (Shorty) Swaim and wife Donna of Martinsburg, and Melvin (Charlie) Swaim and wife Diane of Martinsburg; one sister-in-law, Bernice Swaim of Martinsburg; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his wife Marie, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Walter Swaim.
