Lois Ann Freels, 73, of Auxvasse passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in Columbia.

The family will hold a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Prairie Baptist Church, 104 North Main Street Auxvasse, Missouri 65231, with Pastor Jim Graham officiating.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Lois was born in Mexico on August 7, 1951. She was the daughter of Nelton and Pearl (Trost) Borcherding. On May 24, 1969 she married Eugene Freels at Trinity United Church of God in Mexico. Eugene survives at the home.

Lois loved to stay busy. For over 10 years, Lois drove a school bus for North Callaway, transporting many students, including her kids who were not in favor of this job as they were the first on and the last off the bus! Lois was a beloved figure to her school bus children. After her time with the school district, she dedicated many years to the grocery store industry in Mexico. Starting in customer service at Darby's, Lois became a familiar and cherished presence. As the store transitioned to Hickman's and then to County Market, she continued in this role, always bringing warmth and kindness to her work. She finished her career at Moser's, leaving a lasting impact on both customers and coworkers alike. Even while working her full time jobs she would make time to help with her grandchildren and attend their events.  Every time you'd walk into the house she'd be watching court TV.   Her dream job would have been to be a full-time juror.

Known for her ever-present smile, Lois put others before herself, always thinking of ways to help and brighten someone's day. She had a passion for wind chimes, rocks, and yard ornaments, and she collected bears, which brought her joy. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandkids and great grandchild (aka the GOAT), playing and creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Every year she made Zac a grave blanket. This was a task she did not take lightly. She only used the best trees and there was only one way to place them, her way!

In addition to her husband Eugene, survivors include one son, Duane Freels (Alysia), of Auxvasse; one daughter, Chrystal Freels (Danny Cuno) of Mexico; five grandchildren, Brandon, Meagan, Tyler, Gage, and Audrey; one great grandchild Harper; two brothers, Ronnie Borcherding (Barb) of Martinsburg and Robert Borcherding of Columbia; three sisters, Betty Parrott of Mexico, Doris Campbell (Carl) of Thompson, and Luella Thompson of Clarence; and one sister-in-law, Ann Borcherding; one godchild, Missy (Borcherding) Piontek; and numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Raymond Borcherding and one grandson, Zachary.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made the Super Sam Foundation. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
