Lonnie Burkhead, 76, of Stilwell, Kansas, formerly of Mexico, passed away at 10:44 p.m. Thursday April 22, 2021, at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday April 30, 2021, at Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Joey Owen officiating. There will be no visitation. Pickering Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Lonnie was born on May 9, 1944, in rural Oregon County, Missouri. He was the son of Wilburn and Blanche (Cloven) Burkhead. On July 9, 1976 in Mexico, he married Connie Dickerson who survives. He had also previously been married to Helen Wright.

Lonnie worked for 21 years with Florsheim Shoe and 20 years with the Olathe Boot Company. He was a deputy sheriff for 10 years under Sheriff Bud Riley. He had also been a school bus driver in Stilwell for 10 years.

In addition to his wife Connie, survivors include two sons, Matt Burkhead of Mexico, and Jason Burkhead of Louisburg, Kansas; one step daughter, Deanna McCabe of Kearney, Mo.; one brother, Carl Burkhead; five sisters, Linda O'Toole, Ogden, Utah, Vera (Robert) Chrismer, Winfield, Kan., Lois (Dennis) Sutton, Fruitland Park, Fla., Betty (Gene) Owen, Mexico, Wilma (John) Madrid, Sedalia; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Scott Burkhead; one brother, Bill Burkhead, and one step-son Doug Kreyling.
