Madolyn Virginia Perry

Madolyn Virginia Perry, 99, died at 2:25 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2010 at Kings Daughters Home in Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Miranda Trussell officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Madolyn was born on her parents farm in southern Monroe County on April 7, 1911. Her parents were Homer Nelson and Ella Pearson (Dickey) Powers. She attended rural schools in Monroe County and graduated High School in Perry. She attended Kirksville State Teachers College and later the University of Missouri, Columbia receiving at Bachelor degree in education. She taught 5th grade for 16 years at Eugene Field School, retiring in 1976.

On May 22, 1938, she married James B. Perry of Novelty, Missouri. They resided in Mexico all of their married life. Mr. Perry preceded her in death, March 12, 1969.

Madolyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mexico. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Women, hosting a women s circle meeting in her apartment until just a few months prior to her death. Madolyn was a member of Chapter DK, P.E.O. for more than 50 years, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and in Delta Kappa Gamma.

She is survived by one nephew, James T. Dye and his wife, Judy of Mexico; two great nieces, Ellen Dye Nichols and husband Gary of Columbia, Susan Dye Jewell and husband Scott of St. Louis; two great-great- nephews, Russell Nichols and William Nichols; and two great-great nieces, Madolyn Jewell and Lydia Jewell.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Stevens in 2005, and Margaret Powers in May of 2010.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Mexico, P.E.O.Sisterhood Outreach Fund or to the King s Daughters Home of Mexico. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
