Marjorie M. Wendland

Marjorie Marcella Wendland, 89, of Mexico, formerly of Sierra Vista, Ariz., entered into eternity Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Pin Oaks/Golden Living Center in Mexico. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21 at Church of God (Holiness) 1215 W. Boulevard in Mexico, with Pastor Mark Avery officiating.

Marjorie was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Paynesville, Minn., a daughter of James Virgil and Ethel Faye (Crowder) Rexford. On Dec. 29, 1943, in Paynesville, Minn, she married Roy A. Wendland, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1999.

She was a long time member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Marjorie was a "Hello Girl" "telephone operator" during WWII, and was working the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed. During many years of their marriage, Marjorie assisted her husband in the daily operations of their custom home construction company in Ft. Collins, Colo. After retiring from their business, she was a candy maker for Russell Stover Chocolates. Marjorie was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed gardening, reading, crafts, painting, fly-tying, RVing, and served as a volunteer in several organizations.

She is survived by one daughter, Patti Maxwell and husband Jim Crabtree, Perry, MO; four grandchildren, Amie Bordwell, Eric Maxwell, Stacie Maxwell, and Kristie Maxwell; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Roy, she was preceded in death by one son Jay Roy Wendland; one sister Arliss Burchard; and one great-grandson, Legend Lee Bennett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pin Oaks/Golden Living Center residents fund. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
