Maxine Norman


Maxine Harriett Norman, 91, of Mexico, died at 4 a.m., August 12, 2008, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks in Mexico.


Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Smith officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.


Mrs. Norman was born on Aug. 8, 1917, in Waterloo, Iowa, only daughter of Floyd and Edna Pond VanDrew. On Feb. 11, 1938, in Mexico, she married Edward O. Norman, who died on Feb. 16, 1999. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Mexico, and taught Sunday school classes for both children and adults for many years. She was also a member of the choir and WMU director for several years. In addition she was an active member of WPS of Mexico until her health prevented it. A homemaker, she had also worked at Wally s Market, Gamble s Paint & Glass, Gibson s and Continental Bag.


Survivors include one son, Vernon Norman and his wife Jane, Mexico; three daughters, Edna B. DeFord and husband Kenneth, Goodyear, Ariz., Harriett A. Vaccaro and husband Pete, West Orange, N.J., and Dortzal D. Cockrum and husband Burl, Goodyear, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.


The family suggests memorials be given to First Baptist Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home. 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
