Nancy Rake

Nancy Helwig Steinman Rake, 70, of Kansas City, formerly of St. Louis and Mexico, died at 6:20 p.m. on June 12, 2006, at The Gardens at Barry Road in Kansas City.

Mrs. Rake was born on March 22, 1936, in Mexico, the daughter of John Charles and Nadine Spurling Helwig. She was a 1954 graduate of Mexico High School. On Nov. 26, 1955, in Mexico, she married Bernard M. Steinman, who died on Dec. 16, 1994. She married William Rake on June 7, 1987. He died on Dec. 27, 2000. She loved to travel and sew.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Ostrom officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Caroline Steinman Carter and husband Phil, Kansas City;one sister, Mary Lou Schulte, St. Louis; and two grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Hay and Rachel Michelle Hay, both of Kansas City.

Her parents, John and Nadine Helwig, and husbands, Bernard Steinman and William Rake, preceded her in death.
