Rachel Bell Sweezer, 91, of Mexico, died at 2:25 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico. Visitation will be Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Sweezer was born on May 5, 1912, in Olney, a daughter of Martin Luther and Susie Bell (Henderson) Ward. On Apr. 3, 1938, in Mexico she married Thomas George Sweezer who died on July 20, 1964. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mexico. Survivors include three daughters, Dorris J. Crigler, Centralia, Mary Ann Scrutchfield and her husband J.C., Albert Lea, Minn., Brenda Dunlap and her husband Harry, Centralia; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and six sisters, an infant son, Billy Sweezer, and a grandson Brian, preceded her in death. The family suggests memorials be given to the Mason Eye Clinic at the University of Missouri, in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
