Robert J."Bob" Kirgan

Robert J. "Bob" Kirgan, 75, of Mexico, died Saturday, June 2, 2012, as a result of an automobile accident near Mexico.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at First Christian Church in Mexico with Rev. David Nash and Rev. Randall Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at Pickering Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Bob was born Dec. 25, 1936, in Mount Sterling, Ill., a son of Roy Edgar and Helen Lucille (Ennen) Kirgan. On May 28, 1960, in Versailles, Ill., he married Elizabeth "Betsy" M. White. Betsy preceded him in death on Apr. 20, 2012.

Survivors include one son, Tim Kirgan and wife Monica, Ankeny, Ia.; two daughters, Martha Hagan and husband David, Mexico, and Carol Richards and husband Paul, Liberty, Mo.; six grandchildren, Ryan and Erica Kirgan, Adam and Matthew Richards, and Rebecca Hagan and Ashley Hagan Perry; and one sister, Genna Mountain and husband Wayne, Perry, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Mr. Kirgan served his country in the US Army. He managed Loan Companies in Illinois and Missouri before serving as Lab Supervisor for ADM in Mexico for several years. He retired in 1999.

Bob was an active member of First Christian Church of Mexico. He had served as a Deacon, Church Board Member, and several committees. He was very active in the community over the years serving through TPA, Mexico Jaycees, Miss Missouri Pageant, Children's Therapy and Early Education School as a board member, manager for the American Legion Baseball Team 1971-74, played with the Mac's Falstaff Fast pitch Softball Team, served numerous years coaching, managing, and as a board member for Khoury League Baseball and Girls Softball. Bob was a loyal supporter of Mexico Bulldog sports and had served on the "chain gang" for the football team for over 40 years rarely missing a game. He regularly played golf and was a long time member of Arthur Hills Golf Course. Bob was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan and hardly ever missed either watching or listening to games. More than anything he loved attending the activities of his grandchildren.
