Robert Lee Smith, 82, of Mexico, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Teal Lake Residential Care in Mexico.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the Rush Hill Community Church with Bob Stanford and Sam Hobbs officiating. His cremains will be buried in East Lawn Memorial Park at a later date. He was entrusted to the care of Pickering Funeral Home.

Robert was born in Camden, NJ on December 20, 1940. He was the son of Loren Lee and Annie Adele (Meador) Smith. On June 22, 1985, he married Julia K. Doerge who preceded him in death on February 3, 2020.

Robert worked for Magee Packing Plant for 20 years and then Audrain Medical Center for 13 years.

He was a member of the Rush Hill Community Church. He enjoyed attending the Mexico Senior Center.

He is survived by eight grandchildren, Shawn, Orion, and Darrell Smith, Dayton Durham, Jessica, Miranda, Brandon, and Darrell Williams; and seven great grandchildren, David, Emily, Elizabeth, Lexus, R.C., Anthony, and Isabelle.

In addition to his wife Julia, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Loretta Lynn Smith; six infant siblings; one grandson, Kurtis Smith; and one great granddaughter, Erica.

Memorials may be given to the Rush Hill Community Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
