Rosemarie W. Pretz, 98, of Moberly, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 12, at 9:00 AM at Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 3106 Flora Ave,Kansas City, MO. A Rosary will be said at 8:30 followed by the Funeral Mass. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery,1150 N. 38 th Street, Kansas City, KS after the Funeral Mass.
Rosemarie was born on August 2, 1924, in Peine, Germany, the daughter of August Herman and Henni (Haarstrick) Schrader. On November 23, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri, she married John Raymond Pretz. He passed away on July 7, 2021.
Mrs. Pretz graduated from Licuem High School and Hannover-Gottingen University. She and her husband, John, owned "The Pretzel Kafe Haus". She had also owned and operated Romi Specialty Gifts.
Rosemarie immigrated to the United States after WWII, arriving at Ellis Island December 7 th , 1948. Rosemarie eventually made her way to the Kansas City area where she enrolled in St. Mary's College and worked at St. Mary's Hospital as an Xray Technician.
Rosemarie was a race official for many years with the Rocky Mountain Division (RMD) of the United States Ski Association (USSA). She taught and instilled a love for skiing in all eight of her children. "Omi had a deep love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren"
Mrs. Pretz was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Mexico, MO. There, she helped with the Requiem Mass.
Survivors include eight children, Michael E. (Marilyn) Pretz of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Mark G. Pretz of Canon City, Colorado, Christina M. (Kenneth) Tolbert of Littleton, Colorado, Robert J. (Deborah) Pretz of Arvada, Colorado, Richard F. (Debi) Pretz of Golden, Colorado, Juliana M. (Gary) Herr of Edwards, Colorado, John T. (Shari) Pretz of Moberly, Missouri, and Joseph P. (Stacy) Pretz of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Leisa Chudziak of Bremen, Germany, nephew Thomas Chudziak, niece Evelyn Chudziak Ernst, great nieces Christina Ernst, Kathrin Ernst of Germany; and one brother-in-law, Manfred Sempf of Bremen, Germany. The roots of the Pretz Family continue to grow deeper and stronger with her grandchildren, Christopher (Steffanie), Wendy (David), Brooke (Pablo), Jared (Sarah), Nucu, Ana, Ashley, Susan (Kyle), Stacey (David), Lisa, Amy, Nicholas, Jordan, Matt (Marie), Ross (Jill), Grayden (Amber), Bridger, Sam and Max; great-grandchildren, Jade (Jackie),
Landon, Raelyn, Logan, Noble, Jonas, Hailey, Zakery, Logan, Vinnie, Lillie, Rudie, Christian, Sterling, Peyton, Baylor, Knox, Oliver, Hadlee, Maeve, and Riley.
Rosemarie was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 71 years, John; sister, Anke Sempf, nephew, Werner Ernst; four brothers-in-law, Tony Chudziak (Leisa), Dr. James B. Pretz (Bernadine), Francis Leo Pretz, and Bernard Kaiser (Rita); and three sisters-in-law, Mary E. Pretz, Rita M. (Bernard) Kaiser, and Bernadine (Dr. James B.)
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.
Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri, is handling the arrangements.
