Sallie Wood



Sallie Mae Wood, 91, of Mexico, died at 7:45 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks in Mexico.


Mrs. Wood was born August 2, 1917, in Foristell, a daughter of William Winfield and Mittie Mae (Bobbitt) Wilegus. On March 16, 1946, in Columbia, she married Furnish Wood, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1970.


Sallie was a very active member of Kentucky Road Christian Church. She was in charge of the Funeral Dinner ministry, was a member of Willing Workers and had taught a children s Sunday School class for many years. She also had served as a director of the Shiloh Children s Ranch in Shelbina. Sallie also enjoyed reading and watching QVC.


Survivors include one son, Michael Wood and his wife Maryann, Mexico; one sister, Bernice Boicourt and husband Elmer, Mexico; four grandchildren, Shane Wood, Omaha, Neb., Shawn Wood, Kansas City, Shanann Clampitt, Mexico and Laura McCoy, Mexico; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.


She was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl and Frank and two infants, Essel and John Wilegus.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m., at Kentucky Road Christian Church with Jonathan Ingram and Shane Wood officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial in East Lawn Memorial Park will be private.


In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial be given to Shiloh Christian Children s Home, P.O. Box 606, Shelbina, MO 63468 or to Kentucky Road Christian Church.
